I reported this same issue for the Workstation 9 beta. If your engineers care to check that report they will find a substantial amount of data including some thoughts on possible causes. Just for the record the largest problem comes with games produced during the cut-over period between DirectX7 and DirectX8.
Oracle's VirtualBox suffers from similar issues.
There are also OpenGL issues for games produced in that time period. I suspect OpenGL issues are also the cause of my reported problems with the game 'Miasmata'.
