GO to Services and stop VSS, after convert to template you can start it

The "easiest" way to do this would be to disable HA before running the upgrade on the primary. This may take some more time, though reduce the risk of the nodes not coming back and having to reconfigure it anyway.

Ok I have shared directories working now (hadn't realised this now needs an explicit entry in /etc/fstab)

But copy and paste still not working in either direction.

Thanks

Re: vcsa 6.5 trying to automate the backup - authentication failure

I'm having same issue but a reboot didn't change the status comes back as inactive (dead)

I stopped/started the service and it changed to "active  (running)" but I also get the following error:

  • vapi-endpoint[8457]: Unable to write to the configured log file: ${vapi_log_dir}/wrapper.log (No such file or directory)
    • Falling back to the default file in the current working directory: wrapper.log
  • Unable to write to the default log file: wrapper.log (Permission denied)
    • Disabling log file.

I was successfully able to run the backup script after restarting the service, though.

Thanks for your work tracking this down.

Anyone know why the service is in that state?

vrops-export tool usage

I am able to login to the VR Ops UI using my local userid and password. But, unable to use the same for vrops -export (http 401). Any ideas to fix this authentication issue?

exporttool.bat  -d ../samples/vmfields.yaml -u apiuser -p pwd123 -H https://vopspoc.ve.com/

Also, I have another user in non-local auth, who is receiving http 403 error. Are there any special roles or privileges that needs to be granted for API access.

User Management in vCenter

$

If a user has 'Administrator' role assigned globally, the user is not able to add any new users, manage groups and identity sources.  This option is available only if i add the user to 'Administrators' group.  Is there any detailed documentation on what roles, privileges and group access is needed for user management?  Is there any way to delegate this to another user without adding the user to 'Administrators' group?

Nice to know that there is no more a tools crash / dump.

> But copy and paste still not working in either direction.

'copy and paste' operation is provided by 'dndcp' plugin. Can you please check and make sure that dndcp plugin is loaded by 'vmware tools'

$ ps -ef | grep -i tools

$ lsof -p <pid of vmtoolsd vmusr process> | grep -i plugin

dndcp plugin should be loaded. If it is not loaded, we need to figure out why is not loaded.

Also, can you please follow the instructions at VMware Knowledge Base  and enable the debug logging for vmusr and vmsvc modules and provide the log bundle (you can send me the attachment in a private message).

Few more suggestions / links:

- Please reboot the VM.

- 14.04 - Copy/paste and drag&drop not working in vmware machine with Ubuntu - Ask Ubuntu

- Please check Re: cant copy/paste from guest to host  and follow the instructions to make sure that 'copy / paste' operation is NOT DISABLED.

Thanks

Sankar.

ESX cluster has high CPU utilization. Should I add another server, or upgrade the CPUs?

$

We have an ESX cluster of 4 servers (each has 2 Intel e5-2665 chips) running 130 VMs, and our CPU utilization averages around 30%, which is high.  Would it make more sense to add another server to take some of the load off, or upgrade the existing CPUs?

Thanks!

Best I could figure out is:

Are they warnings or errors ?

Neither

Is this a disconnection issue ?

No, it is looking at the revision of the USB drive.

What are we supposed to do ?

Is there any issues with the functionality of the drive?

30% CPU utilization isn't normally considered "high" on either a single host or across a cluster. Why do you consider this "high" in your environment?

Several problems with isolated networks under ESXi 6.5

Hi all,

I have installed an ESXi 6.5 Update1 Build 6765664 host to do some tests with isolated environments. To accomplish this, I have setup the following vswitches:

[root@scotland:~] esxcfg-vswitch -l

Switch Name      Num Ports   Used Ports  Configured Ports  MTU     Uplinks

vSwitch0         2432        6           128               1500    vmnic0

PortGroup Name        VLAN ID  Used Ports  Uplinks

  Prod_Network          0        2           vmnic0

  Management Network    0        1           vmnic0

PortGroup Name        VLAN ID  Used Ports  Uplinks

  Pub01_Network         0        1           vmnic1

Switch Name      Num Ports   Used Ports  Configured Ports  MTU     Uplinks

  Mgmt_Network          0        1

Switch Name      Num Ports   Used Ports  Configured Ports  MTU     Uplinks

PortGroup Name        VLAN ID  Used Ports  Uplinks

  FwSync_Network        0        1

As you can see, only two switches have physical nics attached. I have setup three virtual machines:

- A DNS server connected to Prod_Network virtual switch

- A virtual firewall (without rules, all traffic is allowed during all tests) connected to all virtual switches.

- A test machine connected only to DMZ_Network virtual switch.

Ok, now the problem. DMZ's test machine can't ping to DNS virtual machine connected to internal Prod_Network virtual switch. Internal DNS server can't ping to DMZ's test machine. Firewall (without rules, all traffic is allowed) can't ping to DMZ's test machine. Firewall can ping to internal DNS machine and DNS internal machine can ping to firewall.

On the other side, firewall machine can't see any traffic on Pub01_Network virtual (which has a physical nic attached and this nic is connected to an ADSL). But, surprisingly, firewall can see traffic on Pub02_Network from ADSL network ... ¿¿¿¿???? Why?? Pub02_Network doesn't have any physical nic attached.

I don't understand anything.

Any light please?

Hi,

So that should not be a problem.

Did you shut down those VMs before upgrading or are you trying to resume VMs from earlier workstation?

Can you attach a vmware.log from a VM that you are trying to start?

Userinit.exe registry changes on first boot of clone machine

$

Hello Team,

I have a issue and want to understand how userinit registry works when a clone machine starts. So the below is the scenario:

I have a Virtual machine where I have modified the registry path for userinit.exe (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\userinit) to c:\programfiles\userint\userinit.exe

I restart the machine and the path remains the same.

But when I clone a machine and power it on and check for this registry key that changes as below:

c:\windows\system32\userinit.exe,c:\programfiles\userint\userinit.exe,

I want to know why this is changing and what triggers this change.

I already did a search on this and do not find anything relevant apart from the below link:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc939862.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

But still I am unable to understand what is causing the change in registry value.

Can anyone through some light on this?

Regards,

Suman Rout

Re: HORRIBLE Mouse Tracking SLUGGISH on Sierra w/8.5.1 - PLEASE HELP!

I'm running windows 10 in my VM.  I just updated to fusion 10.0.1 Pro, and I'm now running High Sierra.   I'm having this same problem.   I had it all through fusion 8.x on Sierra, and now being on the latest of everything, I'm wondering if this problem is ever going to get fixed.

I think it's time to try Parallels on my Mac to see if the problem goes away.
